More Other Sports

Baseball was Piper's other love and might have been his only sport, especially after having some rough times in club and ODP soccer. He began as a catcher for several reasons: the neat equipment, playing time, and no one really wants to play the position so it pretty much guarantees job security.

Pipe started late, several years after the other kids because he was involved in soccer. He began about the end of elementary school at Kirby, Texas, and was named to the All Star team his first year. This was the first time that a rookie had made the All-Star team. After a couple of years he went to a Universal City club while in Kirby Jr. High and played there and made their All-Star Team.

When he moved to Boerne, Texas, after the 8th grade, he played ball there and, again, made the All-Star team, this time as a short stop. The All-Star team won the Texas State Babe Ruth Championship and then went to Regionals in Arkansas.

In high school, at Texas Military Institute, Piper began as a catcher and then played 3rd and short stop. He lettered four years and was named to the TAPPS' All State Team his senior year. He led the San Antonio area several times in stolen bases and made the top 10 in several other categories at times.

When college time arrived, Piper wanted to attend a school with both sports but landed up at two that did not have baseball.
