- Austin Raceway in Austin, Texas, is pictured here in a photo
sent to me by Corinthian
vintage TR4 racer
Bob Kramer who is doing research on the former race
track. The track was in "use" up to about the late '60s or
early '70s if memory serves. If you have any information on the
track or photos of races/workers, contact Bob. Email me and
I'll send you his email address. Or you might look in the Guest
Book.
-
- Dave Dooley's former Lotus Ford Cortina, then owned by
Mark Cain of Oklahoma City, is shown here at an SCCA
driver's school at Texas World
Speedway in Bryan, Texas, put
on by none other than Bob Bondurant's school. Wilbur Shaw,
Jr. was the head
instructor. Gary Burton
(behind the car), Mustang,
Oklahoma, was driving it in July of 1970 where the temperature
was well over 100 degrees.
-
- Dooley, also from Oklahoma City, ran
this car in the SCCA Trans Am series in the mid '60s and was
the only Cortina in the 1967 SCCA Road Race of Champions in
Nov., where he DNF'd. Dooley also DNF'd at the Green Valley
300 Trans Am on April 16 after 5 laps.
-
- Dooley co-drove the car with well
known Midwest Div. Mustang driver John McComb of Wichita,
Kanas, at another Trans Am event during the year as well as a
couple of co-driver stints in McComb's Mustang. McComb ran
some events solo, too.
-
- That's my future husband, to the
right with his head stuck in his Nomex, about to pass out from
heat stroke. I think he was staggering around and saying,
"I've gone blind! I've gone blind!"
-
- Note the dirty T-shirt. He'd been
under the car in the dirt trying to stop a leaking fuel pump
connection and reconnecting a torn off exhaust pipe. That's
his TR4 to the right. Linda Burton snapped this photo.

- That is all for this
month.
- More Photos in the near
future. Be sure to come back.
