"Mixed Bag"
- Allan Girlder, one of the Tulsa World racing "four amigos", was actually the mentor
of the bunch, being the "old" man. Allan went on to become
editor of Car Life, Road
& Track and
Cycle World
as well as having authored
a dozen or so automotive/motorcycle books and many free lance
articles. At this time, in addition to working for the
World, he did free lance articles for various car
magazines. Allan is pictured here on the standing-start grid at
War Bonnet in 1966 in his Lotus Super 7, which he loaned my
future husband for his first driver's school only days after
his 21st birthday. As an aside, both my husband
and Ken Frakes are
also still writing.

- Steve Froines of Oakland, California, goes through the
infield section of the famous Daytona International Speedway
during the 1965 SCCA American Road Race of Champions National
Championship where he won the national title in his blue
Triumph TR4. This photo was taken during a practice session as
one can tell since there is a Shelby GT350 Mustang on the
banking in the background.
