These Two Photos are taken from a proof sheet (God knows if we can ever find the negs) and shows two shots of the same SCCA Grid at the Greater Southwest Airport course in 1976-77.
The top frame has a Porsche 911 on the left and someone in an Alfa GTV with a weird air dam/spoiler...is that thing legal? Behind him can be seen my brother-in-law Jim Lee in his TR4.
The bottom frame shows Jim next to another TR4 and what looks like some Showroom Stock cars. Bet Jim won't like being reminded he was gridded just ahead of them. Probably practice, right Jim?
LAST MONTH'S MYSTERY PHOTO: Last month we asked our visitors to tell us when and where this photo was taken (we put up a B&W version of this to make it look older) and we said we'd give out a mystery prize...sounds good. Well, we got a winner but, unfortunately, my husband must have deleted the person's email during his Spring Cleaning. So, would that person please send us another email and remind us who you are and what your connection is to this photo?
Also giving us the right answer a bit later was this message:
I'm famous! That's my 1963 Corvette in the picture (number 81 AP) and that is Paul Thoennes's 1965 GT350 R model Shelby at Texas World Speedway in College Station, probably in May of 2000. The venue is the CVAR vintage races, look us up on the web.
Mike Kaiser , N. Richland Hills, Texas.
Yep, that's Texas World Speedway (the stands and the Exxon Tank up there ought to give it away if nothing else) and it was in 2000 (not sure it was May, however) and that can be surmized by the fact there is a new truck and van in the background. Think the B&W helped disguise the time frame a bit more than the color photo would have.
Thanks for coming by this month. We'll have more photos in about 60 days. Tell your friends about us.
Oh, yeah, if you're itching to race, there are some race cars for sale and for rent at MGs & More here on this site.
Don't forget to sign my guest book and look to see who has been here recently. Some names you will recognize if you're an old timer.
