A Jaguar XK140 is seen here on the back section of Green Valley Raceway near Dallas on February 14, 1965. My husband was crewing for Allan Girdler, author of more than a dozen books and former editor of Car Life and Road & Track, at this race where Carroll Shelby raced his Mustang GT350 for the very first time with Ken Miles driving. This picture is the worse for wear but is of a unique car, so we're showing it anyway. Anyone know who the driver was?
Carroll Shelby at Green Valley Raceway: Shelby (with back to camera and facing to right) is shown with friends/company employees during the weekend of February 14, 1965, at Green Valley when he was racing the GT350 (5R002) for the very first time. Also raced for the 1st time was a prototype of the coil spring Cobra. Anyone know who the guy is to the left?
One more from Green Valley: three Triumph TR4s pull alongside each other after their SCCA National race the same weekend in 1965 as the above photos. The far TR4 was driven by Vick Campbell of Tulsa, Midwest Div. Champion in this class and later a Trans Am driver. It was Vick's TR4 that my husband saw a Tulsa dealership that got him to buy his race TR4 and start racing. His car is still owned by his brother, James Lee of Corpus Christi and is being restored and raced.
