"Back to the basics" This month we're going to start out with a photo in the original series that featured the drivers and go from there.
Classic Pose: this has got to be the classic pose of all the photos I took during this time period from '72 to '78. This is Dr. D. W. "Doc" Foerster of Oklahoma City in the Pits with his Datsun 2000 at Ponca City after just winning his class. Once, the Doc stopped during a race in New Mexico and rendered aid to a driver who had crashed at the "Bottomless Lake" race.
McComb at Dusk: John McComb, Wichita, Kansas, heads down the straight at Dallas International Motor Speedway as the sun was very low on the horizon in the early 70s. John's A-Sedan Mustang notch-back was tremendously fast and used to give the "factory" boys a run for their money and even years later his notch-back could blow the doors off of newer cars. He always did very well at the SCCA runoffs, winning A-Sedan in 1967, the year my husband was there with his car, and again in 1975 with Group 44 in D Production according to Gallery visitor Steve Knoll. Years after this photo, in the mid 80s, we saw McComb take this car out of "retirement" and blow the doors off the newer model competition.
