- Dallas International Motor
Speedway (DIMS): This was a
great track on Interstate 35 East just north of Dallas that was
purchased by Xerox Corp. in the early 70s and then sat empty
for years. Although a drag strip course, it had, unlike Green
Valley, a fairly long and interesting road course section. This
is an early 70s photo of two unidentified racers with the
fellow in the Spitfire having a bit of a problem considering
he's pretty much out of the turn that puts cars onto the main
drag strip straight. Also, unlike
Green Valley, the races were run
counter-clockwise in the direction of the drags.

- DIMS: This is the back side of the track, almost
directly behind or opposite the above photo. The cars have just
come out of a left hand turn (to the right of the photo) and
are getting ready to go into a right hand turn that led to a
series of quick turns that put them back onto the drag strip
(see below). The lead car in this group is my husband in his
TR-4 with a pack of DP and EP cars pressing him. Photo was
taken in 1970-71 when my husband was stationed with the Air
Force in San Antonio at Wilford Hall Hospital.

- DIMS: Dallas International Motor Speedway, better
known in later years as "Xerox International", this is the
section of the track between leading onto the start/finish
straight by way of a right hand turn which is just off the
picture to the left. This early 70s shot is from a much
enlarged snapshot, thus the grain and fuzziness. This was taken
from the grandstands in the pit area and shows an Alfa driven
by Houston's Joe
Lacario leading a 1960 S90
Porsche 356 driven by Ron
Reed, who has supplied the
i.d. for this photo, the Triumph GT6 of David Dooley of Oklahoma City, and the MGBs of
McDaniels and Hugh
Grammer of Overseas Motors, and Datsun 2000s which can't be made out as
to who is driving. Thanks for the i.d. Ron! Ron says that
Dooley passed him on the straight and went after Joe but cannot
remember the outcome of the race but says it could be the race
where he went off and McDaniels hit him when he came back onto
track. Just now noticed, is that a TR4 behind the Bs?
