First, instead of the traditional signed mug shot of an SCCA race driver, is an artsy photo of the first turn at the Ponca City Grand Prix. On the next page I've placed a bird's eye photo of the track at Ponca City, Oklahoma, so you can get an overall feel of the track. If this is the first time you have visited the gallery, be sure to check out the previous month's photos.

That is Mac Yates of St. Louis in the blue Cobra and behind the Shelby GT350 in the center of the photo is Bob Hindson (911) of Kansas City with a Cobra behind him. A Vette and a Camero Z28 are behind Mac. Don't know who the ASR cars belong to. However, in the '75 PCGP program/entry list "Tex" Arnold of Omaha was racing a Ferrari, Larry Johnson of Colorado Springs was driving a Lola and Fred Parkhill was in a McLaren. Also in the program was a photo taken some time earlier at Ponca of Walt Mays, Fort Worth, in a car that looks exactly like the car that is shown in the lead here. Whether Mays was still running the car in '75 is a good question since he is not listed in ASR but as an entry in an MGB. The year of this photo is not clear.

In my first month's gallery I asked who was driving the Corvette in the background of the photograph that featured Jim Speck's Shelby GT350. Well, it was Jerry Henderson of Lawton, Oklahoma, shown here at the Ponca City Grand Prix in the mid 70s.
Here Henderson is shown after an altercation in turn #3 onto the back straight at Ponca City. Looks like he is missing some of the front end of the car if you look past the corner worker on the right who identified himself in June of 2000 as Clement A. Schmitt of Wichita and who is still in the area and in contact with some of the old Region members. Thanks Clement.
