Last Month's Photos
Watching the races was fun but I liked to see those faces behind the wheels and behind the scenes. The pits were an interesting place most often filled with humor and a willingness to help fellow drivers . As a technical inspector I had plenty of interaction with all the drivers...mostly good.
Often, one of my jobs was to inspect the driver's helmets and Nomex driver's suit, including their underwear. Once, when told I was wanting to "look at your underwear", Danny Moore went and put his on.
David Dooley, Oklahoma City, with his very fast yellow GT6 at Ponca City GP. Dave drove a Lotus Cortina in the Trans Am series and before that an XKE. Did you ever see him in "Jaws"? And if I didn't know better I'd say he was the fellow who played the team manager in "LeMans".
Dr. French Hickman, Oklahoma City area, not only raced a Shelby GT350 but also collected several others. He's an Oklahoma State University Alumnus.

A grid at Hutchinson, Kansas, in the early 70s. That's Jim Speck's Shelby GT350. There are more GT350 photos in last month's gallery and the "family race photos" gallery. Rocky Entriken of the Wichita Region emailed that this is more than likely the June 9, 1974 race looking at who is on the grid here with Speck. The #51 AP Cobra is Loren Pearson and the #55 BP 914-6 Porsche is Bob Hindson.

I'm throwing this photo in just for the Shelby fanatics even though it's not a pit photo. This was taken at Lake Charles, Louisiana, or Victoria, Texas, in 1970-71. Not sure who the driver is. Jeff Fontenot, son of Darwin, of Louisiana SCCA, says his father thinks this could be the late Terry Shove of Sulphur, LA.
